Sports organizations are currently attempting to diversify their revenue sources by entering the metaverse, which has caught the interest of VC companies.

The metaverse, NFT, and Web3 branch of the soccer team FC Barcelona, known as Barca Studios, will get $100 million from Socios.com, a business that creates fan interaction tools for sports teams.

According to the club, the investment would give Socios.com a 24.5 percent ownership in the aforementioned business and enable it to “accelerate the club’s audiovisual, blockchain, NFT, and Web3 strategy.” The firm will be able to concentrate on creating new products that include these new technologies in order to create new, long-term income sources thanks to this funding infusion.

According to Socios.com, Barca Studios now has access to its Chilliz Chain, a new blockchain that enables creators to create defi goods and play2earn games as well as issue NFTs and fan tokens.

Opportunities for Metaverse Growth

Since announcing the creation of a specific division to create goods in the area earlier this year, the soccer team has been fascinated by the metaverse and cutting-edge technology like NFTs. The president of FC Barcelona at the time, Joan Laporta, said the club’s expansion strategy included a large amount of digital attention.
Leo Laporta said:

We want to generate new opportunities for growth. Our goal is to win titles and to make our fans happy, but we also have to profit from opportunities in the sports industry. It is a matter of survival.
